On the south side of town, experience Kemah Boardwalk and its amusement park with a dozen rides from the calm to the crazy. To fill the need for speed, climb aboard Joe's Boardwalk Beast for a high-speed boat thrill ride in the bay. Midway games, arcade games and a dancing fountain round out the fun.

Get a closer look at NASA and space travel at Space Center Houston. Interactive exhibits give you a hands-on experience of what space rock feels like and what zero gravity is all about.

Head farther south for tropical fun at Moody Gardens on Galveston Island. Get in the middle of the action at one of its three theaters, including an IMAX 3D theater.

Cooling off on a hot day is kid's play at Houston's Splashtown or Galveston's new Schlitterbahn waterpark. Spend a day checking out Schlitterbahn's rides and slippery fun. Heated indoor sections mean Schlitterbahn is the hot place to hang out year-round.

Enter another world at the George Ranch Historical Park. For fun-loving history buffs, one family's remarkable legacy takes you back to the late 19th century where Texas' past comes alive. On the 23,000-acre working ranch, escape the city, harvest crops and try your hand at weaving and grinding corn.
