Welcome to the Land of Enchantment.
Photo: Courtesy New Mexico Office of the GovernorAs Governor of New Mexico, I am pleased to welcome you to our great state. From the folklore of ancient civilizations, to the chronicles of modern technological innovation, New Mexico’s history is ripe with adventure and excitement. While you are here, I invite you to explore our rich past and the striking scenery that will bring it all to life.
For generations, artists, writers, explorers, and scientists have been drawn to New Mexico by our cultural and natural heritage. Thousands have left our state enchanted and countless more never left. Big skies, distinctive arts, extraordinary light, traditional music and dance, and dramatic geological sites are just a few of the things in store for you during your stay.
And whether you’re looking for outdoor adventure, cultural immersion, or a Wild West experience, New Mexico’s diverse landscape and culture will deliver. Many of the centuries-old pueblos welcome visitors for special celebrations, and several sites around the state tell important stories of struggles for Native Americans’ rights and homeland. The villages and mission churches in the northern part of the state illuminate a Hispanic legacy that continues to thrive, and down south you can retrace the steps of Billy the Kid country or inspect the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport. New Mexico’s past, present and future are at the forefront of an ever-evolving American West.
Best wishes for a great visit. I hope your travels will bring you back soon to discover more of what makes New Mexico the “Land of Enchantment.”
With warmest regards,
Bill Richardson
Governor of New Mexico
